Hortencia Y. Lara was a beautiful, caring woman with a generous heart and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her. She passed away on January 21, 2026, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering hard work.
For more than 20 years, Hortencia served as a unit secretary in the NICU at Valley Regional Medical Center. She took immense pride in her work and deeply loved her job, her co-workers, and the families she supported every day. Known for her reliability, compassion, and steady presence, she was someone others depended on—someone who showed up, worked hard, and cared deeply. Her years of service were not just a career, but a calling, and she will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Above all else, Hortencia was an extraordinary mother. She poured her love into her only child, Cecilia Lara, and took great joy in her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Bettina Gomez-Lara, and her cherished grandson, Lenard Bazan, who brought light and happiness into her life.
Hortencia was deeply loved by her family, including her many nieces and nephews, who knew her as a constant source of warmth, kindness, and support. Her love extended effortlessly—she gave without hesitation and cared without condition.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Claire, and her brother, Lorenzo Ybarra Jr. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Alicia Claire Ybarra and Lorenzo Ybarra Sr., and her dear sisters, Julia Aldape and Maria Isabel Hernandez.
Hortencia Y. Lara will be remembered as a hard worker, a devoted mother and a woman whose big heart left a lasting impression on countless lives. She was loved by many, and her memory will continue to live on through the people she cared for, the family she cherished, and the lives she quietly but profoundly touched.
Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26th, 2026, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services conclude at the end of the evening.
