Maria Elena Valdez de Silguero passed away after a long and courageous battle with health challenges. While we miss her deeply, we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is now at peace in heaven, reunited with her loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herminio and Angelita Valdez, and her sister,
Olga Valdez de Lopez.
Elena was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, on January 29, 1949. She later lived in Brownsville, Texas, and Waterloo, Iowa.
Elena is lovingly remembered by her life partner, Guadalupe Meza; her sons, Marco Silguero (Veronica Silguero) and Julio Silguero (Doris Silguero); and her daughter, Elena Reader (Ronny Reader). She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren—Nailea Silguero-Gutierrez, Sebastian Silguero, Victoria Silguero, Paola Silguero, Emiliano Silguero, and Maria Viviana Feahn—as well as her greatgrandchildren, Elliott Gutierrez and Julieta Silguero. She is also survived by her brothers, sisters, and a large extended
family who will forever hold her in their hearts.
The family extends special thanks to those who cared for her in her final days: her son, Julio Silguero; her daughter-in-law, Doris Silguero; her granddaughter, Nailea Silguero Gutierrez; and the many other family members she held dear.
A celebration of life is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17th , 2026 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services conclude in the afternoon.

María Elena Valdez de Silguero falleció tras una larga y valiente batalla contra problemas de salud. Aunque sentimos profundamente su ausencia, nos reconforta saber que ya no padece y descansa en paz en el cielo, rodeada de sus seres queridos.
