With hearts broken by his passing, yet filled with overwhelming gratitude for the beautiful life he lived for Christ, we announce that our beloved Jesus “Chuy” Ortiz, 34, of Brownsville, Texas, went home to be with our Savior on November 20, 2025.
Chuy was known for his unwavering faith, kind heart, and deep love for God. He lived with a sincere passion to serve the Lord and draw others closer to Him. He was a true friend, an inspiration to many, and a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humility, and sincere love for God were evident in the way he lived each day. He had a unique way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared for, always pointing others to Jesus through both his words and his life.
Beyond his devotion to ministry and family, Chuy truly knew how to enjoy life. He loved getting together with friends to grill, play board games, or simply sit and enjoy meaningful conversations filled with laughter and warmth. Chuy was fun, joyful, and always knew how to make people laugh, filling every space with light and warmth.
He devoted himself wholeheartedly to ministry, serving through countless outreach efforts, including the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Urban Strategies, local and regional outreach programs, and other community initiatives centered on sharing the gospel and serving those in need. His faithful service at Iglesia Bautista Horeb and his pastoral leadership at Coastal Bend Fellowship in Kingsville, Texas, reflected his deep calling to shepherd God’s people and bring the gospel to all he encountered. He poured his heart into the next generation through the courses he taught at Wayland University and the meaningful work he carried out at Puro Prep. His desire to grow, learn, and serve more faithfully was always evident, and he lived that out through his pursuit of a Master’s in Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, seeking to deepen the calling God had placed on his life.
Chuy was a loving husband and the very best dad to his girls, cherishing every moment with his family and pouring his heart into the ones he loved most. He was truly devoted to his family, always present, always encouraging, and always leading with love. He was an exemplary son and a beloved brother who held his family close, both in word and in action. His life was an inspiration to many because it so beautifully and humbly reflected the love of Christ in all that he did. This love was evident in the way he prayed, the way he shared God’s Word, the compassion he showed, and the countless times he chose to lift others. Time and again, he placed the needs of others before his own, simply because that is who God created him to be.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Karla; his two precious daughters, Alison and Elizabeth; his loving mother, Lucy; his grateful father, Jesus; and his two sisters, Veronica and Lucia, who love him deeply. Although our hearts are deeply broken, we rest in the certainty that Chuy is now in the presence of his Savior, enjoying the fullness of His love, in a place where there is no more pain, only perfect peace. Today, we honor his life by holding tightly to this hope that comforts and sustains us in the midst of our sorrow.
A memorial service honoring Chuy’s life will be held on November 22, 2025, with visiting hours from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in worship, remembrance, and love as we celebrate the life, faith, and legacy of Jesus “Chuy” Ortiz — a servant of God whose light will forever remain in our hearts.

Chuy era conocido por su fe inquebrantable, su corazón bondadoso y su profundo amor por Dios. Vivió con una pasión sincera por servir al Señor y acercar a otros a Él. Fue un verdadero amigo, una inspiración para muchos y una luz que guiaba a todos los que tuvimos el privilegio de conocerlo. Su bondad, su humildad y su amor genuino por Dios se reflejaban en la forma en que vivía cada día. Tenía una manera única de hacer que las personas se sintieran vistas, escuchadas y cuidadas, siempre dirigíendolas a Jesús tanto con sus palabras como con su testimonio de vida.
Más allá de su entrega al ministerio y a su familia, Chuy sabía disfrutar la vida con alegría. Amaba reunirse con sus amigos para asar carne, jugar juegos de mesa o simplemente compartir largas conversaciones llenas de risas y calidez. Chuy era alegre, divertido y siempre sabía cómo sacar una sonrisa, llenando cada espacio con su luz y su presencia.
Se entregó por completo al ministerio, sirviendo a través de innumerables esfuerzos de alcance, incluyendo la Asociación Evangelística Billy Graham, Urban Strategies, programas de alcance local y regional, y otras iniciativas comunitarias dedicadas a compartir el evangelio y servir a quienes más lo necesitaban. Deja en este mundo a su amada esposa, Karla; a sus dos preciosas hijas, Alison y Elizabeth; a su amorosa madre, Lucy; a su padre orgulloso, Jesús ; y a sus dos hermanas, Veronica y Lucia, quienes lo aman profundamente. Aunque nuestros corazones están profundamente heridos por su partida, descansamos en la certeza de que Chuy ya se encuentra en la presencia de su Salvador, disfrutando la plenitud de Su amor, en un lugar donde ya no existe el dolor, solo la paz perfecta. Hoy honramos su vida aferrándonos a esa esperanza que nos sostiene y nos da consuelo en medio de nuestro dolor.
