Gloria Elsa Marquez (formerly Gloria E. San Miguel Núñez), born on September 26, 1947, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, passed away at the age of 78. Her life was defined by elegance, resilience, and a profound devotion to her family, her work, and her heritage.
Educated in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, Gloria built a distinguished and dynamic career across hospitality, tourism, and business. She served as Director of Sales of the Fort Brown Hotel, Sheraton Plaza Royale, Holiday Inn Beach Resort, Bahia Mar Beach Resort, and Co-founded the Brownsville Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She was also a part of various organizations such as LULAC, Center for Business and Economic Development, and was the Committee Liaison for the Latin Builders Associate in Floria and many others. Gloria also contributed significantly to cultural and tourism development as Director of Casa Tamaulipas in San Antonio, Texas. Her professionalism, grace, and warm presence left a lasting impact on colleagues and communities across Texas and beyond.
Gloria’s legacy extends beyond her professional accomplishments. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who inspired those around her with her professionalism, grace, elegance, kindness, strong spirit, and love for her family. Her commitment to her Hispanic cultural heritage, family values, and to her left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Gloria shared a beautiful, adventurous life with her late husband, Manuel “Manny” Marquez. Together, they made their home in several cities, including El Paso, San Antonio, and Laguna Vista, Texas, as well as throughout Florida. Their life together was filled with travel, cruises, laughter, and companionship. After Manny’s passing, Gloria returned to Brownsville, Texas, a place that held her deepest roots and memories.
Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her children: Claudia San Miguel Elizondo (Jose Raul), Veronica A. San Miguel, and Erick A. San Miguel. She was a proud grandmother to Paulina, Eva (Emilio), Diego, Mario (Micaela), Dante, Alexandria, and Emma; and a beloved great-grandmother, as well as an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her siblings Xavier, Leticia (Benny), and Jaime (Mayra). Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Isabel Gamez Nuñez and Jorge Geronimo Nuñez, as well as her siblings Aracely “Sally” De Loach, Norma Treviño, and Jorge Nuñez.
Gloria embraced life with a spirited sense of joy. She loved dancing, traveling, gambling, shopping, and pampering herself. She was known for her flawless makeup, impeccable style from head to toe, refined etiquette, and gracious manners. She cherished evenings spent on cruises with Manny. Gloria’s presence was a blend of sophistication, warmth, and unmistakable charm-qualities that will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Gloria’s memory will continue to live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, Texas, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life. All who were touched by Gloria’s grace and spirit are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer”s Association in honor of Gloria E. Marquez, reflecting Gloria’s enduring compassion and commitment to mental illness.

Su compromiso con su herencia cultural hispana, sus valores familiares y su comunidad dejó una marca imborrable en todos los que la conocieron.
Gloria compartió una vida hermosa y llena de aventuras junto a su amado esposo, Manuel “Manny” Márquez (†). Juntos hicieron su hogar en varias ciudades, incluyendo El Paso, San Antonio y Laguna Vista, Texas, así como en distintas zonas de Florida. Su vida en común estuvo llena de viajes, cruceros, risas y compañía mutua. Un servicio conmemorativo se llevará a cabo el lunes 24 de noviembre de 2025 en Sunset Memorial Funeral Home en Brownsville, Texas, donde familiares y amigos se reunirán para celebrar su extraordinaria vida. Todas las personas tocadas por la gracia y el espíritu de Gloria son bienvenidas a asistir y honrar su memoria.
