Gail M. Pomperien, age 82, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Brownsville, Texas, where he lived with his wife, Jeanne, for the last 9 years, on the golf course, where he loved to play daily.
Gail was born in Lebanon, MO, on December 21, 1942, to Herman and MaeBell Pomperien. The Pomperien family moved several times before settling in Clinton, MO, from Gail’s 7th-grade year to graduation in 1960. After graduation, his family moved to Manhattan, KS. He worked several jobs before enlisting in the Army in 1964. He was based in Germany for several years before completing his tour of duty in Washington, DC. He was honorably discharged in December of 1967. He returned to Manhattan and attended college at Kansas State University on the G.I. Bill, graduating in December 1971 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 52 years.
Two months after graduation in February of 1972, he began his 30+ year career with UMB Bank as a trust officer in the employee benefits division in Kansas City, MO. He married Jeanne A Hale in December of 1972. They remained married until his death. During his time in Kansas City, MO, he became an avid sailor of Hobie Cats, racing at Lake Perry and Cheney Lake for many years. He had a deep love of all sports, including golf. He closely followed the NCAA sports seasons, and through his travels, he collected glasses from each of the colleges he visited. Gail was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs football fan. He loved to spend his Sundays watching the Chiefs play football and smoking a variety of meats and vegetables on his charcoal grill.
