Alma Gloria Garcia

Alma Gloria Garcia

Alma Gloria Garcia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend entered into the glory of eternal life on Monday, January 22, 2024 in Plano, Texas surrounded by loving family from across the state of Texas.

Gloria was the middle born child to Jesus De Leon and Ignacia Munivez in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1957. She married the love of her life, Juan P. Garcia in 1958 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2010.

Mrs. Garcia was a valuable Educator at Cromack Elementary in Brownsville ISD for 24 years. Her temporary substitute position evolved into a permanent Computer Lab Teacher servicing migrant students in the Southmost community. She was cherished by her students and celebrated by her colleagues for her dedication and caring demeanor. She garnered district-wide attention for her creative classroom decorations and was among the most endeared co-workers.

As a mother Gloria raised 5 children and instilled the same passion for education that she practiced. Elementary, Middle School, High School, & College Educators in addition to Varsity Head Coaches, Instructional Coaches, and Dance Director were all influenced by Gloria’s commitment to education.

Gloria was also a proud Soldier’s wife. Her loving husband JP Garcia served 32 years in the US Army National Guard. Together they raised 5 children and passed on their life lessons and honorable character. Gloria was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan, often the optimistic yin to JP’s pessimistic yang for America’s Team. She also loved a good action movie often cheering on Charles Bronson in his movies and laughing at Carroll Burnett on her sketch comedies.

Treasuring her memories are Maggie Garcia (DFW), Johnny & Edna Garcia (Harlingen), Monica Garcia (Houston), Rodrigo & Gracie Garcia (Brownsville), and Alma & Victor Lopez (San Antonio). She was preceded in eternal life by her parents and fun-loving & life-of-the-party brothers, Jesus De Leon (California) and Gilbert De Leon (Brownsville). She has numerous grandchildren:

From Maggie, Erica (Brad) Parnell with great grandchildren Cameron & Rylan. Vanessa (Clayton) Pope with great grandchildren Emmery, Elora, & Everett. Amanda (Kyle) Miles. Olivia (Cecil) Avila with great grandchildren Landon & Alaina.
