Alicia V. Burnias

Alicia V. Burnias

Alicia V. Burnias, 91, went to her Heavenly Home on the evening of Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home due to natural causes.  She was surrounded by family members at the time of her passing.  Alicia will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Alicia was born on June 5, 1932 to Manuela Villarreal and Francisco Burnias in Olmito, Texas.  She attended secondary school at San Benito High School in the late 1940’s.  After one year of high school studies Alicia began working at our father’s grocery and service station in Olmito.  She worked side by side with our father until her retirement in 1985.  After retirement she settled to a quiet life along with our mother in their home in Olmito.

As a young lady she grew up with her siblings, cousins and friends.  They all enjoyed the fun activities of their era which included visiting friends and relatives, attending local weekend dances at the popular El Mesquiton, which was an open-air dancing area, and viewing movies at the local theaters in Brownsville.

Alicia is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Osbaldo Esquivel, Enrique Esquivel Sr., Tanis Esquivel, Francisco Burnias Jr., Merced Burnias Sr., sister Emilia B. Garcia and brothers-in-law Guadalupe R. Garcia, Encarnacion Perez Sr. and Noley Rumble.  She is survived by her sisters Celina Burnias Perez (Encarnacion +), Lala Cavazos Rumble (Noley +), brothers Reynaldo Burnias Sr. (Gracie Cavazos B.), Ramiro Burnias (Amparo Oliveira B.), Oscar Burnias (Ana Gonzales B.), sisters-in-law Minda Leal Burnias (Merced Sr. +), Rosie Lara Burnias (Frank Jr.+) and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Honored as pallbearers are nephews Mario Perez, Merced Burnias Jr., Michael Burnias, Hector Burnias, Greg Burnias, and Rudy Burnias.
