Josefa Salinas Garcia, 76, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 02, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, TX on October 21, 1948.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Trinidad Salinas and Rufina Rendon; her husband, Jose Ledezma Garcia; her son, Hilario Garcia (“Larry”); and her grandson Jayden Lee Garcia.
She is survived by her children; Celina S. Garcia, Carolina G. Rios (Esteban “Jaro”), and Jose Garcia Jr.,
(Juanita “Janie”); her grandchildren, Guadalupe Castro III, Venisha M. Colon, and Genevieve Garcia; her siblings, Carmella Garcia (Francisco), Aurora Calderon (Hector), and Jose Maria Salinas (Cyndi); and numerous nephews and nieces.
A retired educator, Josefa Salinas dedicated 25 years of service as a teacher at A.S. Putegnat Elementary School. She had a deep love for travel, cherished spending time with her family, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching Korean soap operas and found joy in playing bingo, as well as solving crossword puzzles and word searches. Early in life, she developed a passion for baking cakes. She especially loved traveling to watch her son, Hilario “Larry” Garcia, coach kickball games. She enjoyed attending kickball tournaments. Above all, she loved her grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 07, 2025, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The chapel opens at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Interment is to follow at 3:00 p.m. to Buena Vista Burial Park.
