Carlos De Leon Jr.

Carlos De Leόn Jr., 67, of Brownsville and Los Fresnos, TX, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 22nd, at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Brownsville, Texas on June 23rd, 1957.

Carlos worked for Brownsville ISD as a paraprofessional teacher in the Special Education Department.  He retired in 2020. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding his classic 1971 Chevrolet Cheyenne C10, his pride and joy. Carlos loved Christian music, singing at church and playing his accordion and drums. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and always rooted for his favorite team regardless of whether they won or lost.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carlos De Leόn Sr., daughter Monica De Leόn, son Javier Carlos De Leόn, maternal grandparents Elijio and Guadalupe Medina, paternal grandparents, Jose Angel and Guadalupe De Leόn, and nephew Joey De Leόn.

Carlos is survived by his loving family, wife of 25 years, Maria Isabel De Leόn, mother María M. De León, daughter Angie Guiterrez (Agustin), son Omar De Leόn and their mother Rosie De Leόn. Brothers, Eduardo De Leόn (Sylvia), Ricardo De Leόn (María), Dimas De Leόn (Connie), Santos Alejandro De Leόn (Rosalinda), José Angel De Leόn (Janie), sisters, Lupita De Leόn, and Maria D. Bazaldua (Salvador) and sister in-law Nancy De Leόn. Step-son Tom Godinez Jr., step-daughters, Martha Godinez-Pearson, Jeanette Godinez, and Jessica Betancourt. Grandchildren, Xzavier Gutierrez, Anthony Gutierrez, Tommy Godinez, Michael Godinez, Christian Godinez, Brandon Godinez, Mark Godinez, Janella Aguirre, Lauro Trevino, Nicolas Betancourt, Edgar Betancourt, and Penelope Betancourt and numerous nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be Eddie De Leόn, Santos De Leόn, Salvador Bazaldua, Carlos Bazaldua, Alejandro De Leόn, Tom Godinez Jr., Eddie E. De Leόn, Jesse De Leόn.

Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.  The chapel opens at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 and a chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment is to follow at 11:00 a.m. to Buena Vista Burial Park.
