Maria Elena Villarreal, 73, of Brownsville, TX, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico on January 13, 1951.
She is preceded in death by her father Leoncio Vargas and her mother Virginia De La Fuente; and her sisters Reyna Molina and Martha Imelda Vigil.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Maria E. Romero (Gerardo Romero), Dora P. Villarreal, Luis G. Vargas (Jaquelina Trejo-Vargas), Ida D. Villarreal, Roberto J. Vargas (Silvia K. Martinez-Vargas), and Jaime C. Villarreal; her grandchildren Ray, Marielena (Rafael) , Reyna (Armando), Luis R., Amberlynn, Alejandra, Leoncio, Emily, Luis V., Abigail, Brianna, Edward, Gricel, and Jacob; her great-grandchildren Jasón and Natalia; her brother Ramon Vargas, her sisters Gloria Isabel Cerda and Diana M. Treviño.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with recitation of The Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The chapel opens at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Interment is to follow at 11:00 a.m. to Buena Vista Burial Park.
