Janet Lopez

Janet Lopez

Janet Lopez, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend entered eternal rest on October 28, 2023, at Valley Baptist Medical Center – Brownsville, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on February 10, 1969.

Janet L. Lopez was a dedicated, hardworking, and admirable person by many of us that knew her.
She was the daughter of Elia Duarte Cruz (+) and Roberto L. Cruz, and had 7 brothers and sisters. They
were a happy family who enjoyed spending time together and enjoying good laughs during gatherings.
Her laugh was one that distinguished Janet; so loud and full of life.
During her years of schooling, she was very music oriented as she loved and was very proud of being
part of the band at Faulk Middle School and at Porter High School. She met great people there that
became her lifelong friends.
When she graduated she became employed at the District Clerks Office where she worked for 30 years
before retiring, and there she only continued to make friends that some would become like sisters. She
enjoyed her job oh so very much, and working with the people she did, made it easy to go to work every
day. Her passion and dedication towards her job was admirable.
Janet was married to Jose Luis Lopez Olivares with whom she had 2 children, Corina Marie Lopez (later
Jimenez) and Jose Luis Lopez Jr. They enjoyed weekends at their small but cozy home in Ejido La Venada
in Matamoros, enjoyed eating carnitas at Carnitas El Crucero, and just spending time with family as well.
Later in life, Janet became a grandmother of 3 children whom she loved very much: Victor Matias
Jimenez (Mati – Mi niño), Ana Paola Jimenez (Pollita), and Cindy Lu Jimenez. These three will miss her
dearly!
Janet worked hard and diligently to support her family, but most important of all, taught her children
and grandchildren just like her parents taught her, to love Jesus Christ with all their heart, mind, and
soul, and to always have a thankful heart to God!

She is preceded in death by her mother Elia D. Cruz, and her brother Roberto Lozano Jr.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, José Luis López Olivarez; and her father Roberto L. Cruz; and her children Corina Marie (Victor Hugo) Jimenez and José Luis López Jr.; and her six siblings Lorena Lozano, Cynthia Lozano, Elia L. Avendaño, Esmeralda Lozano, Edgar Lozano, and Luis Carlos Cruz; and her three grandchildren, Victor Matias Jimenez, Ana Paula Jimenez, and Cindy Lu Jimenez. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2nd and Friday November 3rd, 2023, with a Prayer Service on both days at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
