Helen De la Fuente Martinez

Helen De la Fuente Martinez, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend entered into eternal rest on October 5th, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Houston, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her mother Adelina De la Fuente and her father Francisco De la Fuente; her two brothers Raul Montemayor and Ramon Montemayor; and one sister Raquel Montemayor de Mendoza.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Juan Martinez; and her three daughters Amanda (John) Wise, Chelsea (Arnoldo) Herrera, and Bianca Martinez; and her two sisters Dalia Richard and Rosalva Cantu; and her brother Martin R. Montemayor; and her five grandchildren, Noah Martinez, Nicole Flores, Elijah and Paloma Wise, and Emilio Herrera; and many other loving cousins, aunts, and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Helen was a proud alumna of Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. She had a close bond with her classmates and looked forward to their yearly reunions. She was a beloved member of the Brownsville community. She was involved in the Junior League, the Brownsville Medical Alliance, and helped consult for the first ever Holiday Village. She used many of her own antiques to add her special touch to the houses. She was very active in the lives of her daughters and grandchildren, traveling often to San Antonio and Houston to see her loved ones. She had a love for antiques, shopping, dancing, and squirrels. She was married to her loving spouse Juan for 42 years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Helen on Sunday October 8th. The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Celebration of life service will commence at 10:30 a.m.

    Helen, you were one of a kind! You were caring, giving, and always made those around you so welcome and comfortable! You will be missed dearly and you will live in my memories and heart for ever. You were authentic. You always called it the way you saw it. No ifs or buts! You cannot be duplicated because you were unique. I carry you in my thoughts forever. Rest In Peace my dear cousin.     I have heard wonderful things from Bianca about her mother and father. I never got to meet them but my son is dating Bionca.. I know how much she was loved by her family and friends. She will be surely missed. Bionca is a blessing for my son and I’m so glad they met.

    I met Bianca she is dating my son Russell she has been a blessing. I know how much she loves her family and devoted she is to her mother in passing. I can see how much her mother was loved by family and friends. I wish I could have met her she sounds like a wonderful woman. I know Bianca thinks so. The Lord be with you all in this time.

    I was honored and so glad I got to meet Helen in the past year to have a better understanding of my love Bianca. I am glad she got to see me, talk to me, at least partially get to know me and know that Bianca will be cared for and loved. She will be missed. Russell

    Sincerest sympathies to the Martinez family. I was a classmate of your loved one at Incarnate Word Academy. Helen was a beautiful and kind person . I had the pleasure of seeing her at our last gift exchange party. God bless and comfort you all at this difficult time.
