February 11, 1939-May 14, 2023

Tommie Treviño Castro was called into God’s heavenly kingdom on May 14, 2023

surrounded by her loving family. Tommie was born in Mercedes, Texas to Gumercinda “Gume†Rivera and Jesus Treviño. Tommie was 84 years of age at the time of her passing. Tommie was preceded in death by her sons, Bruce Leroy Castro, Bryan Lane Castro, her parents, Jesus Treviño,  Gumercinda “Gume†Treviño and her sister, Essie Hall.

Tommie is survived by her loving husband, Ernesto “Ernie†Castro, grandchildren, Bruce Castro, II, Kayla Nicole Castro, and Michael Hunter Castro and her daughter in law, Bel Sanchez. She is also survived by her sister, Norma T. Sloss and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her dearly.

Tommie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She married the love of her life on December 20, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brownsville, Texas.  Ernie and Tommie would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. After she raised her sons, she made the decision to try something new and sought employment. She worked at

Dillard’s Department store as a sales associate for many years before retiring. Tommie was a great cook, baker and made the best flour tortillas ever! She would never turn down a good Margarita, especially the ones from Roadhouse.

Special thanks and love to her niece, Debbie Sloss and her daughter in law Bel Sanchez who were her angels on earth. They were there with her every step of her journey, supporting and caring for her unconditionally. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Valley Regional Hospital for their care and attention. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to all who visited, called, texted, for bringing food and most importantly your prayers.

REMEMBERING

The beauty of a memory is that it’s always there, Like a penny in your pocket,

You cantake it anywhere.

And when your heart is heavy and your eyes are filled with tears,

You can focus on a memory, and travel through the years.

Your heart can visit happy times, when laughter filled the air,

And the presence of your loved one, Will lessen your despair.

So, as you travel on in life, Take comfort as you go, In a lifetime of “sweet memories,†

Of one who loved you so!

The family requests your presence to celebrate Mrs. Tommie’s life from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Ernie, both Frank & I were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your beloved Tommie. We remember her fondly when we would visit with you all. She had a deep love & gift for her beautiful yearly XMAS decorations. She knew I loved bubble gum & one year gifted me an oversized purple margarita glass filled with my favorite bubble gum. To date, it still sits on our living room coffee table. Without the bubble gum, of course! Tommie had a knack for brightening up our day with her shyish grin & laughter. Truly, her kindred spirit touched all our lives. With much love, Frank & Anna
