Irma (Sanchez) Gatica, 76, of Brownsville, TX, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Irma was born on December 19, 1946, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Irma was a caregiver to all and faithfully spent over 25 years in the healthcare industry as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. Irma spent the majority of her life caring for others, primarily at Valley Baptist Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. Many that knew her said she provided her patients with care and comfort and always left them with a smile. Irma was best known for her tireless dedication to those in need, her love, fierce determination, and generosity. Irma was also a very spiritual person and was an active Christian at Restauracion Y Poder.

Irma was committed and dedicated to her loving family. She enjoyed and celebrated her time ensuring their good health, happiness, spirituality and unwavering love to them. After attending her Brownsville High School, she met the love of her life, Marco Gatica, with whom she shared her life for over 50 years. Marco and Irma were married on November 7, 1971 in Matamoros, Tamps. They welcomed three beautiful children into their lives, Claudia (Juan), Adriana ‘Dottie’, and Marco ‘Mark’ Jr. (Melissa). Irma is preceded in death by her parents, Octaviano Sanchez Dimas and Amanda Rodriguez Garcia Sanchez, her daughter Adriana ” Dottie” Gatica and her siblings Thomas Sanchez and Daniel Sanchez.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Marco Antonio Gatica, children, Claudia Mendez and Marco Antonio Gatica Jr, son-in-law Juan Antonio Mendez, daughter in law Melissa Gatica, siblings Aurora Zapata, Minerva Sanchez, Luis Sanchez, and Roberto Sanchez, Octaviano Sanchez Jr., grandchildren Juan Mendez Jr., Santiago Mendez, Ezekiel Mendez, Adriana Gatica, Olivia Gatica, great grandchildren Gabriel A. Mendez, Isabella Mendez, Santiago Mendez Jr., Miguel Angel Mendez and Gianna Mendez.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from 1PM-8PM with a prayer service at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, TX. Visitation continues on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 10AM with a chapel service at 1PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow at 3PM at Buena Vista Burial Park.
