Mary Elizabeth Cortina, 74, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roberto and her mother.
She is survived by her son Carlos, granddaughter Addy, her sister Lupita Cervantes, nephews Sonny and Hugo Cervantes, nieces Lisa Coombs and Monica C. Castlio and several great nieces and nephews.
After a 30-year teaching career with BISD which included Cummings Middle School, Hanna High School and Garza Elementary, Mary continued teaching at UTB-TSC until her full retirement. She touched many lives with her kindness, showed great concern for her students, and always helped those in need.
A special thanks and gratitude to her caregiver Maria Luisa for the love and dedication during her illness.
She will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 8, 2023, from 3PM to 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Anyone is welcome to share his/her personal experiences.
