James M. “Jim” Gigliotti

James M. “Jim” Gigliotti, age 60, of Dothan, AL and recently of Brownsville, TX passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2023. Jim was born on June 7th, 1962, in Lorain, OH.

He was a 1980 graduate of Firelands High School. Upon graduation, Jim was an A&P mechanic in the Air Force for 4 years. He then earned an Associate’s Degree from LCCC prior to joining the US Army where he became an Apache Helicopter pilot. He was a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He actively served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and in Bosnia, and earned the Master Aviator award. He retired from military service after 20+ years. After retirement he worked for a civilian Army contractor as an aviation safety officer and became a helicopter pilot instructor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Liliana, his sons James and Santiago, and stepsons, Daniel, and Sergio Nava. He is also survived by siblings Mark (Mary) Gigliotti, Karen (Dan) Byrne, Pamela (Randy) Brown, Patricia (Thomas) Harrison, John (Vicki) Gigliotti, Jerel (Diane) Gigliotti. He was preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Jerome and Florence Gigliotti and brother Joel Gigliotti.

Jim had many interests in photography, bicycling, music, traveling, and flying his private airplane, Jim loved life, his family, friends, and country. He loved God and was an active member and servant leader of his church in Dothan, AL until his recent move to Brownsville, TX. More than these accomplishments, his true gift was allowing the light of Christ to shine through him onto others, making everyone he met feel loved, special, and important.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 1PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation continues Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 10AM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2PM at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX located 2520 South Inspiration Road, Mission Texas, 78572.
