Raul Saldana Sr., 87, of Brownsville, TX, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on April 30, 2016 in Sunshine Haven Special Care Facility in Olmito, TX. He was born in Robstown, TX on November 27, 1928.
He is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Delma Saldana, parents, Jose and Maria del Refugio Saldana and his 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Tomasa “Tome†Saldana of 62 years, children, Maria del Refugio Gonzalez, Perla (Enrique) Saldivar, Mary Helen Saldana, Raul (Margarita) Saldana Jr., sister, Irma (Frank) Nino, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was a proud World War II Veteran, served in the U.S. Army and Airforce. He worked at Pan-American Airlines as an Aircraft mechanic and also worked at Electric Supply Company. He loved collecting and selling vintage furnisher and appliances and refurbish them as a hobby. He loved having all his family and grandchildren (His pride and Joy) over for “cook-outsâ€. He also loved fishing and his favorite sport was football. Go Cowboys!! We will forever miss his jokes, kindness, and affection.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 1-9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Wed., May 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
