August 20, 1954 – October 2, 2026
In Loving Memory of Dr. Jesus Alberto De La Garza Gomez
Dr. Jesus Alberto De La Garza Gomez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, doctor, and friend, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 72.
Born on August 20, 1954, in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Alberto was the son of Luis De La Garza Fox and Herlinda Gomez de De La Garza. He was born and raised in Matamoros alongside his siblings, Sarah Luisa, Luis, Ricardo, and Fernando, in a family and community that shaped the values he carried throughout his life.
Alberto pursued his calling in dentistry at the Universidad de Guadalajara, where he studied Odontología and became a Cirujano Dentista. He devoted his professional life to caring for others through his work as a dentist, including many years of public service with the Government of Mexico’s Secretaría de Salud. In addition to caring for his patients, Alberto took on an important leadership role among his colleagues, serving as Secretary General of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Secretaría de Salud in Matamoros. His years in public service reflected both his commitment to his profession and the strong sense of fairness and justice that characterized his life.
Whether serving his patients, representing his fellow healthcare workers, or practicing dentistry, Alberto was hardworking and dedicated. He believed in doing things properly, treating people fairly, and giving his best to those who placed their trust in him.
Those same principles extended far beyond his profession. Alberto was a man of strong convictions, known for his nobility, rectitude, candor, sense of justice, straightforward nature, and willingness to help others. He did not believe that a person’s position, profession, or circumstances made them more or less deserving of dignity.
One of the principles he impressed upon his family was simple:
You are not better than anyone else, but nobody is better than you.”
For Alberto, those words meant treating others with respect while also respecting yourself—extending kindness and dignity freely, but having the courage to draw a line and expect the same in return. It was a philosophy he carried throughout his life and one he sought to pass on to his children and grandchildren.
His Presbyterian faith was an important part of who he was. Alberto was a devoted churchgoer with a deep interest in theology, and his faith provided a foundation for the way he approached life, family, friendship, and service to others. His commitment to his church extended beyond attendance; he faithfully served as a Ruling Elder, taking on a position of spiritual leadership and responsibility within the Presbyterian church and serving his congregation with the same integrity and conviction that characterized the rest of his life.
Outside of his work and church, Alberto enjoyed the things that made life richer: playing golf, watching football, reading, studying theology, and sharing a good carne asada with family and friends. Whether on the golf course, at church, around a table, or in conversation with a friend, he valued fellowship and the company of those around him.
Alberto is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Castillo; his children, Luis Alberto De La Garza and his wife, Karla Torres de De La Garza, Manuel Roman De La Garza and his wife, Natalia Da Silva Sant’Anna de De La Garza, and Sebastian De La Garza; his stepchildren, Carmina Arredondo and her husband, Frank Amador, and Arturo Arredondo; and his grandchildren, Eva Luisa De La Garza, Jude De La Garza, Lucas De La Garza, Franco Alberto De La Garza, and Allie Amador.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis De La Garza Fox and Herlinda Gomez de De La Garza, and his siblings, Sarah Luisa, Ricardo, and Luis. He is survived by his brother, Fernando De La Garza, along with extended family, friends, former patients, fellow church members, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his friendship and generosity.
Alberto leaves behind more than the accomplishments of a long career. He leaves the example of a man who worked hard, spoke plainly, stood for what he believed was right, helped when he could, remained faithful, and expected people to treat one another with dignity.
His family will remember his work ethic and strength of character, but also the man behind them: the doctor, the golfer, the reader, the theologian, the friend, the churchgoer, the father and grandfather, and the man who enjoyed gathering with those he loved over a family meal.
His straightforward words, his principles, his helpful nature, and the lessons he imparted will remain with his family for generations to come.
“You are not better than anyone else, but nobody is better than you.”
May the life he lived continue to remind those who loved him to work hard, walk with faith, act with justice, help others, and always give—and expect—the dignity and respect every person deserves.
