Juan (Johnny) A. Perez, 97, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1928.
Johnny, a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Johnny was a WWII veteran who enlisted at 15 ½ years of age. He served in the U.S. Navy spending 19 straight months of sea duty. As a Boatswain Mate Second Class, Johnny was injured by enemy fire while making an amphibious landing on Iwo Jima. While hospitalized in the Marshall Islands, he was awarded a Purple Heart.
During his life, Johnny loved white wing hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time and eating out with family and friends. Johnny was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known him. Johnny never met a stranger.
Johnny is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia Barron Perez; his daughter, Norma A. Barron; his parents, Juan H. Perez and Carmen Garcia;
Johnny is survived by his children: Sylvia Swift, Belinda (Eduardo) Campirano Sr., and Minerva (Jay) Medina; 7 grandchildren: Jonathan Swift, John D. (Jackie) Barron, Michael A. (Elsa) Barron, Monica A. Barron, Marisa A. (Joe Paredes) Campirano, Eduardo A. (Mirenda) Campirano Jr. and Matthew A. Medina; in addition to 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Irma Gamez.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will begin on Thursday, June 11th, 2026 at 10:00 am. at Buena Vista Burial Park

I am so sorry for your loss. I have such great memories growing up just a few houses down from Uncle Johnny. He always had bits of wisdom to share with me and what a great sense of humor. My heart felt condolences.
