Rosa Amparo Severs passed away on Thursday, April 30, surrounded by her children.
She was born on May 14, 1969, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, to Juana Maria Briagas—a place that lived in her spirit no matter where life carried her.
Rosa was a lifelong fan of Prince, a lover of music, and a woman who moved through life in her own rhythm. She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her wicked sense of humor—sharp, honest, and unforgettable. She spoke her mind without hesitation, yet always made space to greet others with love. Her heart was generous, often giving to those with less, even when she herself had little to spare.
Her proudest role was being a mother. She leaves behind her four children: Ashley Inez Cole (Louis Marrero), Joanna Norene Perez (Sergio Perez), Evan Lee Severs (Ashley Marie McBride), and Yvanava Esperanza Severs (Richard Ruiz). She was also a devoted “Ita” to Pierre Joseph, Aviva Valeria, Celia Amparo, Evan Lee III, Adalee Taylor, David Angel, and Yaretzi Marie, each of whom carries a piece of her forward.
She is also survived by her brother, Fernando Pardo Jr., and his son, Fernando III
Rosa’s life was not without its trials, but she endured them in her own way. More than anything, she should be remembered as a survivor—resilient, complex, and deeply human.
Visitation will take place at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, Texas on Thursday, May 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
