Major Robert Lawrence, 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Brownsville, Texas, on April 28, 2026. Born on April 9, 1930, he lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep devotion to family and country.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roy Lawrence and Cora Patterson; and his beloved wife of 63 years, Eva Maria Frenaud, his childhood sweetheart and lifelong companion.

Major Robert Lawrence served with honor and distinction in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Major with the 9th Infantry 6th Army. His military career spanned multiple theaters of service, including deployments to Korea and Vietnam. He was present at the historic Battle of Ia Drang called sign (Broken Arrow), recognized as the first major engagement of the Vietnam War, and continued to serve his nation with steadfast commitment. In recognition of his exemplary service, Major Lawrence was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean and Vietnam Service Medal, and two Bronze Service Stars. 

Beyond his distinguished military service, Major Lawrence cherished the meaningful moments of everyday life. He was an avid dancer who welcomed every opportunity to take to the floor, a hands-on enthusiast who found joy in home projects, and a lifelong learner who spent countless hours immersed in music and historical audiobooks. His curiosity, warmth, and grounded character left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Major Lawrence’s life was one of honor, resilience, and profound love. He leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and quiet grace that will be cherished by, fellow veterans, and his community. A life well lived, deeply respected, and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 04, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 5th, 2026. Interment will take place at 10:00 am at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery with military honors conducted by VFW RGV Memorial Post 8788.
