Jose Luis “Joe” Martinez Jr., 74, of Brownsville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1951, in Brownsville, Texas, to Jose Luis Martinez Sr. and Justina Cruz Martinez.
Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Aminda C. Martinez, and a proud father to Juan Francisco Zamora Jr. and his wife Lynn, Aminda E. Martinez, and Jose Luis Martinez III and his wife Reyna. He was blessed with grandchildren Kimberly Zamora and her husband Enrique Rodriguez Jr., Selena Castillo and her husband Roberto Castillo, Melinda Fernandez and her husband Reynaldo Fernandez, Juan Francisco Zamora III, Mindy Martinez, Miriam Zendejas, Letty Martinez, Itzy Martinez, and Eli Martinez. His great-grandchildren brought him endless joy: Enrique Rodriguez III, Ezequiel Rodriguez, Kaylee Rodriguez, Alleah Castillo, Roberto Castillo Jr., Alyson Castillo, Reynaldo Fernandez Jr., Jaziel Fernandez, and Mayte Xiomara Salgado.
He is also survived by his beloved siblings and their families: Hermes and his wife Yolanda, Maria Antonia and her husband Ubaldo, Eduardo and his wife Mary, Ethel and her husband Alfredo, Vianey and her husband Hassan, Mericia (who was preceded in death by her husband David), Ervin and his wife Isabel, and Ayde and her husband Tim.
Joe dedicated his career to being an electrician, a trade he loved deeply. His knowledge was vast, and he found joy in sharing it with others, always willing to teach and help. He later retired from Rich SeaPak after many years of hard work. That same spirit of dedication carried into his everyday life. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to lend a hand to anyone, whether family, friend, or stranger. Helping others gave him true joy.
He was also a man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. A loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, Joe rarely missed a game. He loved starting his days with the news, watching programs like Good Morning America, The View, and David Muir’s evening broadcasts. Music was one of his greatest joys, from Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, The Mamas and the Papas, The Platters, and The Supremes, to Creedence Clearwater Revival, country music, and especially tejano. He often asked Alexa to play 96.1 in whatever room he was working around the house. He loved family movie nights and television shows, and he enjoyed crabbing by the water when he was able. His sense of humor was unmatched. He had a way of making people laugh, often poking fun at himself or recalling funny memories that lifted everyone’s spirits.
Joe attended Brownsville Community Fellowship Church, and when his health no longer allowed him to be there in person, he faithfully watched the services from home. In the face of stage 4 cancer, Joe showed remarkable courage and strength, fighting bravely until the very end. Even more importantly, he devoted his final years to growing in his faith. Joe gave his life to the Lord and made it his priority to read the Bible cover to cover each year. He often shared questions and reflections with family, always eager for deeper understanding. No matter the time of day or night, he made time to be with the Lord. When his health allowed, he joyfully used his skills to serve his church community, helping with electrical needs.
Joe will be remembered as a man of faith, laughter, knowledge, and generosity. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched with his humor, his wisdom, and his love.
