James W. Sulewski Sr., 81, of Brownsville, Texas, entered the golden gates of the Lord on August 29, 2025, surrounded by the family that loved him. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 4, 1944, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and the greatest grandfather to his grandchildren, including the fur ones. He was known to his grandchildren as “Pipa”. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic at Randolf Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas, from 1962-1966.
James is preceded in death by his parents Florence Mae and Walter Sulewski, his brother Walter Sulewski Jr., and his in-laws Lydia and George Garcia.
Those of us left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Olda, his children Lydia (Ernie) Lopez, Cynthia M. Sulewski, George (Veronica) Sulewski, and James W. (Sarah Gamez) Sulewski Jr., his grandchildren Lorrie Lopez, Austin James, Katelynn Marie Sulewski, Elijah Gamez, and his fur grandchildren Winston, Maverick, Milo, Toby, Chico, Honey, Moo, Missy, FluffyGirl, his great-grand fur children Draco and Ares, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Military Honors at 5:00 p.m. and recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. The chapel will open on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the end of the funeral mass.
Serving as his pall bearers are George W. Sulewski, James W. Sulewski, Austin J. Sulewski, Jay Garcia, Adrian Garcia and Mike Ortiz. Honorary pall bearer is Ernie Lopez.
