In loving memory of Ruben Escobedo
Ruben Escobedo, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great
grandfather, peacefully entered into his eternal rest on Sept. 11, 2026 while
surrounded by his loving family.
He was best known as a pillar of strength to all who knew and loved him, a
strength which was nourished by a deep- rooted faith and devotion to God. His
enduring testimony was that of a righteous man who always put God first above
everything else. Being a devout follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he
was a lifelong student of the Bible.
Ruben was born April 20, 1932 in a ranch called Rancho La Villanueva, located in
the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. His early education was in Mexico. As a young
man he moved to the United States where he received the remainder of his
education throughout his High School years.
Later in life, he continued his education and enrolled at the Latin American Bible
Institute, where he graduated top of his class (Valedictorian) in 1983 with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Theology.
He was passionate about teaching God’s word to others. And with such goal in
mind, he gave of himself in generosity, compassion, and fervent love for all who
hungered to know more about God. To see a life transformed by the gospel of
Jesus Christ was his life’s purpose and greatest satisfaction.
One of his many abilities was how he would make people feel. Always loved,
cherished and valuable. It was quite common to see him greeting everyone he
met with a kind smile.
Ruben’s daytime occupation was that of truck driver for Levi’s Strauss, where he
retired after 42 years of service.
Ruben proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army. His
service and commitment were hallmarks of a remarkable career. He was called to
active military duty February 2, 1953 and assigned to the Armored Infantry
Battalion. His active service ended February 2, 1955. His rank upon being
honorably discharged was that of Corporal. He was then transferred to active
Army Reserve duty to complete 8 years of service.
Ruben met his wife Hermelinda “Millie” Castillo and they married December 18,
1955. Having committed to being faithful in the keeping of their covenantal vows,
they were married for 70 years.
Ruben is survived by his wife Hermelinda, and children Ruben Jr. (Dina), Bernice
(German), Eliseo (Rachel), Anna (Alejandro), and Vilma (Arnold). He was blessed
with 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
His legacy of love and strength will live on through his surviving family. While he
will be truly missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is resting
peacefully in the loving arms of his Creator, having lived a life full of purpose,
faith, and love.
Visitation will be September 17, 2026 from 2-8 pm with a prayer service at 5:30 pm
at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville , TX 78526
Burial Services will be September 18, 2026 at Templo Emmanuel located at 801 W.
Levee, Brownsville, TX 12:00 pm with a processional to Roselawn Memorial
Gardens 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, Tx 78526
