George Frazier Haylock Jr., 58, of South Padre Island, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.
George was born in Guanaja, Honduras, one of the beautiful Caribbean Bay Islands and a place that remained especially close to his heart throughout his life. No matter how far his travels took him, Guanaja remained one of his favorite places to return to, visit, and spend time.
George proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, rising to the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career took him throughout the United States and abroad, including extensive service in Latin America. His dedication to his country, leadership, discipline, and steadfast commitment to service were hallmarks of a remarkable military career.
George lived a life filled with purpose, adventure, and service. His travels and experiences took him to places many only dream of seeing—from climbing the mountains of Machu Picchu to serving his country throughout Latin America. He embraced challenges with courage and determination and carried with him the strength, discipline, and sense of responsibility that defined so much of his life.
As the eldest of five children, George held a special place in his family. He was more than a big brother; he was a leader, an example, and, in many ways, a trailblazer for his younger siblings. He opened doors to experiences beyond home, encouraged them to see a bigger world, and helped pave the way for education and achievement to become an expectation for those who followed him. His strength, accomplishments, and unwavering determination left very big shoes to fill, and his influence will continue through the lives of those who looked up to him.
Above all, George loved his family. Behind the discipline of the soldier was a brother, son, father, partner, and friend who was deeply loved and whose presence will be profoundly missed. His family will remember not only the Lieutenant Colonel and the extraordinary places his life took him, but the man who helped shape their lives and gave them memories they will carry forever.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Frazier Haylock Sr.
George is survived by his loving mother, Ilona Teresa Haylock; his daughter, Lauren R. Haylock (Austen Kaul); Lauren’s sister, Jessica Boots (Timothy Boots); and Lauren’s mother, Angela Delamar.
He is also survived by his brothers, Hubert (Karla) Haylock, Donald (Alma) Haylock, and Lloyd Bryan Haylock; his sister, Donna (Joey) de la Garza; his longtime partner and dear friend, Tina Rakos; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are his brothers, Hubert Haylock, Donald Haylock, and Lloyd Bryan Haylock.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Military Honors will be rendered during the memorial service in recognition of George’s honorable service to his country at 5:00 p.m.
In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation will follow the visitation and memorial service.
