Francisca “Kika” Castillo López, died late Tuesday night on June 23, 2026 at the age of 85, surrounded by loving family and friends. Kika was born on October 4th, 1940, in Bishop, Texas. She was one of three daughters born to Pilar García Trevino and Pedro Castillo Zavala. Before school age she and her family moved to the San Pedro community in Brownsville, Texas. She attended Villa Nueva Elementary School. She graduated from Villa Maria High School but never forgot the teachings of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. Then she graduated nursing school at Mercy Hospital. In 1960 she married the love of her life, Jose Raul “Rule” Lopez, and helped run the family business of López Dairy. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband during cotton season, sugar cane planting, and sorghum harvesting. They were together for 42 years, until his death in 2002. Kika had a passion for cooking and baking and made beautiful wedding cakes for over 20 years. She lived for holidays & Tamaladas, because they brought family together. 

For more than 60 years she faithfully served the Diocese of Brownsville and community of San Pedro as a catechist, lector, and extraordinary minister. She was a devoted Catholic whose faith and service touched countless lives. She is survived by her four children – Dora Elia López García (Israel García Jr.), Oscar Raul López (Wally Cantú), Jose Mario López (Yvette Jerez López), and Luis Ernesto López; four grandchildren – Rebecca Michelle García Murillo (Hugo Murillo), Israel Adrian García, Alexander Raul García, and Elizabeth Ashley López Cisneros (José Cisneros); four great-grandchildren – Athena Cisneros, Ezrael Murillo, Evie Cisneros, and Theodore Cisneros. She is also survived by her sister Aurora “Borin” Castillo Longoria; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her longtime provider and friend Blanca. Preceeding Kika in death were her husband Raul, her parents Pedro and Pilar, and her sister Julia Castillo Rodríguez. 

All services are being handled by the Sunset Memorial Funeral home. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26th, 2026 from 4-8 pm with a holy rosary being recited at 6pm. The Mass of Resurrection* will be held at San Pedro Catholic Church on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at 11am.
