Oscar Padrón, born November 19, 1938, in Brownsville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 6, 2026. A lifelong resident of Brownsville, Oscar graduated from Brownsville High School in the Class of 1958, where he was voted “Most Wittiest” by his peers, a trait that defined him throughout his life. After school, he served his country in the United States Army, later receiving an honorable discharge.
Oscar dedicated his life to providing for his family through steady, faithful work, establishing a foundation of stability and strength for his household. He served as a supervisor with Leece-Neville and later retired from his career in transportation and logistics as a freight broker with Eddie Jaimes Trucking USA, Inc. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Alicia Padrón, and a loving father to his children, leading his family with quiet resolve. A man of deep personal faith, Oscar was an active pillar of St. Luke Catholic Church, where he served with dedication as an usher. He was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus, raising funds for local charitable projects, and alongside his wife, regularly visited the sick in local hospitals and the ill and elderly at their homes. He will be remembered by family and friends for his humor, wit, and vibrant personality that brought laughter to gatherings and made those around him feel at ease.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alicia Padrón; his son, Omar Padrón; his parents, Nieves and Maria de los Angeles (Angelita) Padrón; and his siblings, Roberto Padrón (Maria Luisa), Nieves Jr. Padrón (Lydia), Virginia Olivares (Juventino), Feliciano Padrón, Maria Luisa Vela (Ramon), Lydia Ramirez (Jose), Jose Padrón, and Daniel Padrón. He is survived by his children, Oscar Jr., Oniver, and Oswaldo; his grandchildren; his sister, Maria de Jesus Perez (Jesus); and his sister-in-law, Celina Padrón. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 10, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, Texas, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be offered at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, at St. Luke Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at 3:00 PM at Buena Vista Cemetery in Brownsville, Texas. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Oscar Padrón Jr., Oswaldo Padrón, Omar Padrón Jr., Augusto Salas III, Carlos Salas, and Zachary Harris. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Oniver Padrón, Diego Dorado, Michael Padrón, Matthew Padrón and his Brother Knights of Columbus.
