Abel Mata Leal, age 74, of San Benito, TX, passed away on March 31, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in Rancho Carricitos Municipio de San Carlos, Tamaulipas to Margarito Mata Ibarra † , and Micaela Leal Montes de Mata †.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Benavides Garcia de Mata and his children Marcela Chew (Andrew), Sonia Mata (Oziel Serrata), Abel Mata Jr. †, Larry Mata, Abel H. Mata, Tomas Lara Mata (Adriana), Adela Lara Mata De Martinez (Rolando Martinez), Adaney Mata (Chance G.), Ernesto Lara Mata †, Roberto Lara Mata †, Alejandro Mata (Christina Picazo), and Arely Mata (Jovan Scott). He is survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his siblings Sabina Mata † (Arturo Castillo †) Julia Mata, Celia Mata (Fidel Sarmiento), Mariano Mata (Opal Mata †) Arturo Mata (Dominga Mata) Margarita Mata, Adela Mata + (Tomas Lara †) Daniel Mata (Angelica Mata), Reynaldo Mata (Cristina Mata) Mariaelena Mata (Ismael Gonzalez †) and various nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. As well as Sunday, April 5th, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Que en paz descanse mi tio Abel Mata. Fue una gran persona. Deja tantos recuerdos bonitos. Siempre mantuvo y fue gran parte y conviviencia con la familia Lopez. En todas nuestras fiestas toco. Desde.chiquita hasta mi high school anduve en los bailes con ellos cuando tocaban. Esto era el beneficio de tener un tio musico. Uff cuantos recuerdos. Siempre Los Centellas Del Norte. Bonitos tiempos de fiestas, viajes y tiempo con la Familia. Fue duro un dia antes de su partida ver a ese hombre fuerte desvanecer. No hay palabras en nuestras gran perdidas. El era de buenos sentimientos. Y no se me olvidara como lloro la perdida de mi hermana y de mi abuela materna. Ahora el se reune con su seres queridos. Descanse en paz tio Abel. Mis mas sincero pesame a toda la familia, en especial a mi.primo Abel y Sonia. Tuvieron un gran padre.
