We are mournful to announce the passing of Maria McCaskill on March 6, 2026. Maria was born on December 26, 1958, to Josefina and Inocencio Garibay. She is survived by Alfredo Garibay, Teofilo Garibay, Inocencio Garibay Jr., Trinidad Rodriguez, and Aurora Garibay Garcia. She was preceded in death by Ramon Garibay, Guadalupe Garibay Garcia, and Juan Garibay. She was a proud and loving mother to seven children: Rosalva Galvan, Rose Mary McCaskill, Archie McCaskill Jr., Francisco Garibay, Jennifer Tapia, and Isaura Ivette Cruz. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica Tapia Quinones. She was also a cherished grandmother to 24 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 22 great-grandchildren. Her family brought her immense joy and pride in her life.
Maria had a vibrant and joyful spirit, enjoying dancing, singing, fishing, arts and crafts, playing bingo, and most of all spending time with family. Her laughter, warmth, and lively personality made every moment brighter for those around her. Family and friends will always remember Maria for her love of music and her all-time favorite phrase that captured her fun-loving passion for dancing: “Cumbia o me voy.” Maria will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit, love, and cherished memories will forever live in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Maria’s life on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. 657 Springmart Boulevard, Brownsvile, Texas, 78526. (956) 350-8485. Viewing will be held from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 6 pm. Services conclude at the end of the evening.
