Nemencio S. Canales, also known as “El Venado,” of Brownsville, Texas, devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brownsville, Texas, on June 9, 1953. He was 72 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Canales and Concepcion Canales; Jose Maria Vasquez and Maria Banda; his children, Nemencio Canales Jr. and Luis Carlos Canales; his brothers, Antonio, Napoleon, Miguel, José, Jesus, Pablo, Benito, and Servando Canales; his sisters, Maria, Maria Diega, Flora Canales Herrera, and Maria Luisa Canales Crouch; and his sister in life, Sylvia Banda.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gerardo Canales, Ramon Juarez, Alex Canales, and Andrea Canales; his grandson, Louie Canales; his sister, Connie Canales Neeley; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces; and his companion, Lisa Rodriguez.
He was a loving father who always put his family first. A loyal friend to many, he found peace in the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and embracing nature. He cherished good times surrounded by family and friends, creating memories that will live on forever.
Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16th, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Services will conclude at the end of the evening.
