Betty S. Smith

In Loving Memory of Betty Sue Smith

Betty Sue Smith was a woman whose life quietly fulfilled the words of Scripture long before they were spoken over her. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” (Proverbs 31:28)

In life and in death, Betty Sue followed the love of her life, her husband Bob. After 75 years of marriage—years marked by devotion, service, laughter, sacrifice, and faith—when her beloved passed, it was not long before she followed him home. Their union was not merely a marriage, but a calling lived out together for the glory of God.

If ever there was a woman who embodied the Proverbs 31-woman, Betty Sue did so completely. Strength and dignity were her clothing, and kindness governed her tongue. Her life was not lived loudly, but faithfully. She served with patience, loved with gentleness, and gave of herself fully to those God placed in her care.

One verse that carried Betty Sue through every season of life was her favorite:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

This verse was not a slogan to her—it was a lived truth. It gave her courage when the path was uncertain, strength when the work was demanding, and peace when the sacrifices were great. Whether supporting her family, serving in ministry, traveling the world as a missionary, or standing steadfast through hardship and loss, Betty Sue leaned fully on Christ’s strength rather than her own. Her quiet confidence came from knowing that whatever God placed before her, He would also supply the grace to carry it through.

Betty Sue had a deep love for the Psalms, and her life echoed their truth—trusting in the Lord, resting in His promises, and praising Him in all seasons. She lived to serve and to love, reflecting Christ in the countless unseen moments that shaped so many lives.

As a wife and ministry partner, Betty Sue was the steady foundation behind the scenes. While Bob preached, traveled, and led, she carried the details—organizing, supporting, stewarding, praying. Her dedication and faithfulness were the pillars that allowed Grandpa Bob to be the man God called him to be. Together, their marriage and ministry were a beautiful testimony of two strengths working in perfect unison, united in purpose and devoted to His Kingdom.

Betty Sue and Bob traveled the world as missionaries, serving faithfully wherever the Lord sent them. They loved Jesus deeply and lived fully for His glory, leaving behind a legacy of faith that continues through generations.

Above all else, Betty Sue loved her family. She poured herself into her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren with extraordinary patience and tenderness. Her love was steady, generous, and enduring—a love that made each person feel seen, valued, and deeply cherished.

She is lovingly remembered by her children:

  • David and Lupita Smith
  • Rebecca Zolzer

Betty Sue Smith leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion—a life strengthened by Christ and poured out for others. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (Proverbs 31:29)
