Consuelo Flores Saldaña

In Loving Memory of Consuelo Flores Saldaña

Consuelo Flores Saldaña, 85, of Brownsville, passed away peacefully and entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 30, 1939, in Los Fresnos, Texas to Santiago Atkinson Flores and Angelita Gonzales Flores. She was a devoted wife, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Consuelo (Chelo) was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Deacon Enrique (Henry) Saldaña, her parents Santiago and Angelita Flores, her siblings Blanca Montemayor, Teresa Alvear, Dominga Gonzalez, Santos Solis, and Gilberto Flores.

She is survived by her loving children Veronica Reyes (Eduardo), Adriana Abete (Rene), and Enrique Saldaña, Jr. (Cynthia); her cherished grandchildren, Alina Cuellar, Katy Abete, Francisco Enrique Reyes, Zoe Alessandra Saldaña, and Alyssa Berenice Saldaña; her great-grandchildren Brooke, Devon, Lily and Sunny; her sister Rosa Flores De La Fuente (Lionel) and Ramon Ortiz whom she saw as a brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Consuelo was a deeply devoted Catholic whose life was a testament to faith, service, and unwavering trust in God’s plan. She walked through life with grace, even in the face of hardship, and her faith never wavered.

Consuelo loved to share stories of her younger years, such as picking cotton to help raise funds for the construction of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas—a reflection of her early commitment to her faith and community. After marrying and moving to Brownsville in the 1960s, she became a cherished member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, where she served passionately in numerous clubs and ministries, and faithfully helped count the Mass collections.

Consuelo was a proud Los Fresnos Falcon, graduating in 1959. She and a close-knit group of classmates remained united through the years, gathering every Tuesday for breakfast, laughter, and storytelling.

She was a guiding light to all who knew her—a devoted wife and mother, offering wisdom, unconditional love, and a joyful spirit. Her presence lit up every room. She loved to talk, share stories, and tell jokes that left hearts lighter.

Her energetic soul, quick wit, and powerful prayers were a blessing to many. She found deep joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in cooking delicious meals, nurturing her plants, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and keeping family stories alive.

Consuelo’s life was a living prayer, and her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration. As Scripture reminds us: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Though her hands are now at rest, the seeds of kindness, laughter, and love she planted continue to bloom in every story shared, every meal prepared, and every prayer whispered. Her vibrant spirit lives on—in the joy of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the warmth of her friendships, and the faith-filled legacy she leaves behind.
