Juan Rivera, Jr., 72 years of age of Brownsville, Tx devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, entered into eternal rest Aug 28, 2025 at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in San Benito, Tx on September 27, 1952. He is preceded in death by parents: Juan & Cristina Rivera, brother: Guadalupe Rivera, late wife Adela and son Cristobal Rivera
Left to cherish his memory is his children: Juan III, Nadia, Priscilla, and Natallie Rivera. His wife Mirtala Morales and his step-children Mirta Arias, Rosaura, Jose, Francisco, Melissa Herrera. Numerous Grandchildren and great grandchildren. His siblings, Olga Garcia, Erasmo, Vicente, Juventino, Cristina, Jose Antonio & Soledad Rivera.
Juan was a welder/pipe fitter, he worked in many projects in the Port of Brownsville, his father and brother took pride in building The Port Isabel Causeway, and many shrimp boats as well as building the Gladys Porter Zoo. Juan also knew carpentry, plumbing, mechanics he was self-made.
Juan went to school in Matamoros and a proud graduate of Secundaria Juan Jose De La Garza, to be accepted into that school the entrance test was very hard but he passed with flying colors.
He was a great brother who helped his siblings exceed in their education. He also cared and loved his mother. Juan at the age of 17, left home to work in Illinois in a canning plant with his 15-year-old brother, Guadalupe, where he learned the value of money. Upon returning, once again left with his brother, Guadaupe, to Houston to continue helping the family. Both brothers so young landed a job at the Astrodome and at a prestigious hotel restaurant, one epic moment that Juan had and he talked about is when he got to meet Elvis Presley in concert, he got to see other celebrities, but Elvis was his idol. In his last dreams Juan called out his brother Guadalupe as if they were working together. I am sure Juan will be joining all his family members and together they will rejoice and be watching over his family.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, from 1:00 – 8:00 pm with a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm. On Wednesday, September 3rd, the chapel opens at 8:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at San Pedro, Texas at 10:00 a.m. at San Pedro Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m.
