In Loving Memory of Hector Chapa Buentello Sr. 1956-2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hector Chapa Buentello Sr., a beloved husband, cherished father, devoted brother, adored grandfather, and heroic firefighter, who left us peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the age of 68.
Hector was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family, friends, and community. As a dedicated firefighter for 29 years and 11 months- because according to him, 30 years was just too much; he risked his life to save others, embodying a selfless spirit that touched countless lives. His playful energy, infectious laughter, and love for the Dallas Cowboys were matched only by his passion for helping those in need, always without expecting anything in return.
A true sports enthusiast, Hector spent many years coaching kickball, inspiring young players with his enthusiasm and encouragement. He loved playing basketball, baseball, softball, and flag football, often sharing stories and cheering on his favorite teams with friends and family.
He could almost always be found with a 44oz Big Gulp in his hand–his signature sidekick-no matter the time of day.
Hector is survived by the mother of his children, Catarina; his daughter, Cindy & son-in-law, Juan; his sons, Robert and Hector; his daughter-in-law, Andrea; and his grandson, Riley. He is also survived by his life partner, Aurora Segura, who held a special place in his heart, along with her children, Ivonne Cruz, son-in-law David Ledezma, their children-Atriana, Thomas, Sophie. Stephanie Cruz; Beth Cruz and her children- Andrejah, Christian, and Dalilah -whom he embraced as his own and who brought him immense joy. He leaves behind his siblings, Arturo Buentello, Maria Luisa Banda, Rosita de la Garza, and Juan “Barney” Buentello. And many many many nieces and nephews whom he cherished. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a hero who always answered the call to serve. Hector’s legacy of courage, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025 with a prayer service commencing at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services conclude at the end of the evening.
