Darrel W. Waters

Darrel Wiley Waters, 94, of Brownsville, TX, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, was born on July 8, 1930, in Sterling, IL, and passed away surrounded by his loving family at Brownsville Nursing Rehab Center, in Brownsville, TX, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Darrel is preceded in death by his father John W. Waters, Jr., stepfather Harry Everly, and his mother Berniece Everly.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Betty J. Waters; his daughter Joanie (Javier) Padilla; his siblings Dale Everly, Dolly Gorton, and Donna (Darrell) Wooldridge; grandchildren Kari Burgess (Thomas Baeza), Katie Burgess (Ryan Atherton), Drew Burgess; 6 great-grandchildren; Lilly Baeza, Kaitlyn Baeza, Alicia Burgess, Silas Baeza, Jonah McCoy, Benson Billings; one great-great granddaughter Lyla Jennings.

Darrel served in the U.S, Army in Korea.  He worked at many jobs including International Harvester, Russell, Burdsall & Ward (RB & W), in Illinois.  He was also a certified Heating and Cooling Technician and in retirement worked at Superwash in Rock Falls, IL, Viking Builders in Sterling, IL.  His final job that he enjoyed greatly was a maintenance technician for First Baptist Church in Brownsville, TX.

A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.
