Maria Melida Rodriguez

Maria Melida Rodriguez, 74, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mexico on July 20, 1950.

Melida was preceded in death by her parents, Maximiano Hernandez and Consuelo Mora; brothers and sisters Medalia Hernandez, Gilberto Hernandez, Marianela Hernandez, and Maximiano Hernandez.

She is survived by her children Medalia Rodriguez, Melissa Vargas (Manny), Mely Vargas, Rafael Rodriguez, Alberto Rodriguez, Gilberto Hernandez, Dennys Rodriguez; grandchildren Ismael Juarez, Samuel Juarez, Medalia Juarez, Oscar Anzaldua Jr., Manuel J. Torres, Hailey N. Olvera, Hazel N. Castillo, Rafael Rodriguez Jr., Alberto Rodriguez, Ashlee Rodriguez, Annai Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, Serena Hernandez, Dayton Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Kayn Hernandez, Ricky Hernandez, Diego Vargas, Durvick Vargas; great-grandchildren Ever J., Meilania, Rafael Rodriguez III; her sisters Myrthala Hernandez, Mirna Hernandez, Dora Hernandez, and Blanca Hernandez.

She was a loving mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister and a treasured daughter. Her unwavering faith, led her to dedicate her life to serving the Lord through her involvement in her church. She had an outstanding commitment to helping the less fortunate and the sick, always extending a helping hand to those in need. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from nurturing her plants to enjoying moments of excitement at the bingo. Her selflessness, warmth, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The chapel opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A chapel service will commence 12:00 p.m., interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Guillen Community Cemetery.
