Jacob Guadalupe Velez

Jacob Guadalupe Velez, 17, of Brownsville, TX, devoted son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, entered eternal rest on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gainesville, Georgia on March 31, 2007.

Jacob was a student at Brownsville Veterans Memorial High School who formed part of the high school marching band as a skilled trombone player. His extracurricular activities and hobbies included practicing martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu, playing piano, and an avid car enthusiast.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents Obdulia Chavira, Rosario Chavira, Irene Salazar Garza, and Eustaquio Garza; his paternal grandmother Guadalupe Yañez Velez; his maternal aunt Yolanda Chavira; and his maternal cousins Guadalupe Chavira Jr. and Lucas Garza.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother Priscilla Chavira and his father Juan Velez; his paternal grandfather Matilde Velez; and his maternal grandparents Humberto and Mary Chavira.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The chapel will open at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and interment is to follow at 1:00 p.m. to Buena Vista Burial Park.
