Martha Alicia Hernández, de 68 años, entró en el descanso eterno el miércoles 12 de junio de 2024. Recordamos con cariño a Martha, una mujer fuerte y valiente que luchó contra el cancer por dos años.
Martha nació en Matamoros, Tamaulipas hija de Alicia Rodríguez de León y Rodrigo Gallegos Lara el 21 de febrero de 1956. Vivió la mayor parte de su infancia en Monterrey, México, donde creció con sus siete hermanos. Era una hija, hermana, madre, amiga, y abuelita cariñosa que dedicó su vida a su familia. Su espíritu inquebrantable inspiró a todos los que la conocieron.
Conoció a su esposo, José Isaac Hernández, cuando ambos eran adolescentes en Monterrey. Se casaron en 1975 y se mudaron a Brownsville, Texas, donde criaron a sus tres hijas, Martha, Cindy y Vallerie.
Una madre devota, Martha apoyó a sus hijas en todas las formas posibles, incluido el voluntariado en Porter Band Boosters y Little Miss Kickball, donde sus tres hijas jugaron desde la década de 1980 hasta la de 2000. Estaba especialmente orgullosa de ser parte de Comunidad Ama, una organización católica dedicada a brindar oportunidades y eventos educativos y religiosos a la comunidad.
Fue su pasión trabajar en Friendship of Women, una agencia que provee servicios de apoyo a adultos y niños afectados por la violencia doméstica y sexual. Antes de eso, trabajó con orgullo en la planta de Levi Strauss en Brownsville por 20 años antes de que cerrara en 2002.
Las vidas de sus seres más cercanos son mejores y más brillantes por haberla conocido. Su memoria y su impacto vivirán a través de ella y de los ejemplos que dio como madre devota y voluntaria de corazón.
A Martha le sobreviven sus hermanos Rodrigo Eugenio Gallegos Rodríguez, María Teresa Gallegos Rodríguez, Reyna Graciela Gallegos Rodríguez, Víctor Manuel Gallegos Rodríguez, José Luis Gallegos Rodríguez, Alma Delia Gallegos Rodríguez y Norma Patricia Gallegos Rodríguez, sus hijas Cynthia Ann Guerra (David Guerra) y Vallerie Guerra (Elias Guerra), su yerno Noe Ramos Jr., y sus nietas Zoey Karin Ramos y Madison Celeste Guerra. También le sobreviven amados sobrinos y sobrinas. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres Alicia Rodríguez de León y Rodrigo Gallegos Lara, así como su hija mayor, Martha Ramos.
La velacion de la Sra. Martha Alicia Hernandez se llevará a cabo de 1:00 p.m. at 8:00 p.m. con la recitacion del Santo Rosario a las 6:00 p.m. el Lunes, 17 de Junio de 2024 en Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. La capilla abre a las 10:00 a.m. el 18 de Junio de 2024 en Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. La misa de Resurreccion se celebrará a las 2:00 p.m. en la Iglesia Católica San José y al concluir la misa el sepelio se llevará a cabo a las 3:00 p.m. en Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Martha Alicia Hernandez, age 68, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Martha was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas to Alicia Rodriguez de Leon and Rodrigo Gallegos Lara on February 21, 1956. She spent most of her childhood in Monterrey, Mexico where she grew up with her seven siblings. She was a loving and kind daughter, sister, mother, and friend who devoted her life to her family.
She met her husband, Jose Isaac Hernandez, when they were both teenagers in Monterrey. They were married in 1975 and moved to Brownsville, Texas where they raised their three daughters, Martha, Cindy, and Vallerie.
A devoted mother, she supported her daughters in every way possible, including volunteering with the Porter Band Boosters and Little Miss Kickball, where her three daughters played from the 1980s through the 2000s. She was especially proud to be a part of Comunidad AMA, a Catholic organization devoted to providing educational and religious opportunities and events to the community.
She was fond of her time working at Friendship of Women, an agency that provides support services to adults and children impacted by family and sexual violence where she worked for several years. Prior to that, she proudly worked at the Levi Strauss plant in Brownsville for 20 years before it closed in 2002.
The lives of those closest to her are better and brighter for having known her. Her memory and lasting impact will live on through her and the examples she set as a devoted mom and a volunteer at heart.
Martha is survived by her siblings Rodrigo Eugenio Gallegos Rodriguez, Maria Teresa Gallegos Rodriguez, Reyna Graciela Gallegos Rodriguez, Victor Manuel Gallegos Rodriguez, Jose Luis Gallegos Rodriguez, Alma Delia Gallegos Rodriguez, and Norma Patricia Gallegos Rodriguez, by daughters Cynthia Ann Guerra (David Guerra) and Vallerie Guerra (Elias Guerra), her son-in-law Noe Ramos Jr., and her granddaughters Zoey Karin Ramos and Madison Celeste Guerra. She is preceded in death by her parents Alicia Rodriguez de Leon and Rodrigo Gallegos Lara as well as her eldest daughter, Martha Ramos.
Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 with recitation of The Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The chapel opens at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
