We are sad to announce the passing of Maria V. Medina, she died at the age of 88 surrounded by her loved ones.  She was anchored by her deep faith and her unwavering devotion to family.  She was an active member of her community, volunteering in Valley interfaith to improve the Garden Park area. She was a devoted Catholic, member of Our Lady of Good Counsel, participated in the church choir, and as a Eucharistic Minister.  Maria was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Antonio Medina and one son, Jose Jesus Medina.

Survived by her children Norma (Carlos) Galindo, Mario (Diana) Medina, Patty (Glenn) Simpson, Diana (Luis) Salinas, Gloria (Manuel) Barrera, Veronica (Isaac) Saenz, Alysha (Jeff) Alcantara, and Isaac Saenz III; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; and her loving dog Max.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m.  to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the chapel opens at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass scheduled at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel with entombment to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park at 1:00 p.m.

Serving as Maria’s pallbearers will be Isaac Saenz III, Jeff Alcantara, Luis Salinas Jr., Gonzalo Pena IV, Tony Pena, Mark Galindo.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mario Medina Jr., Frederick Galindo, Savaughn Munivez.

Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. (956) 350-8485.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in the memory of Ms. María V. Medina to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
