Rafael A. Pizaña, Jr.

Rafael Pizaña, Jr. was born September 1, 1947, in Brownsville, TX to Rafael Pizaña, Sr. and Ester A. Pizaña.  He grew up on his parent’s farm/ranch on Oklahoma Ave, Brownsville, TX.  He attended BISD until his senior year at which time he was drafted by the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam Warand received several Purple Hearts and other medals.  At one time, Representative Kiki de La Garza made arrangements to get Rafael taken out of the front lines, but he refused.

Rafael Pizaña Jr. entered eternal rest on February 24, 2024.  He is survived by his sons, Rafael Pizaña III, Jose Ruben Pizaña, and his grandchildren, Joshua Pizaña and Zoyla Pizaña.  He is also survived by his sisters Josefina Soto, Emma Cantú, Adela Blanco, Janie Garcia, and Tina Pizaña.

Mass of the Resurrection will take place on March 9, 2024 at St. Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Church located at 5409 Austin Road, Brownsville, TX at 11:00 a.m. followed by a procession to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.  Visitation will take place from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with military honors at 5:00 p.m.  Services will conclude at the end of the evening.
