Rolando “Roly” A. Perez

Rolando A. Perez “Roly” passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Mercedes, Texas, he was the youngest of eight siblings.  The family moved to Brownsville when he was only a year old and he remained living there until his passing.  Roly was a graduate of Brownsville High School and then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.  He was a proud, self-proclaimed hippie with a natural green thumb.  He loved music, his collection of peace signs, working in his garden, and seeing the variety of birds that would gather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Ben Perez and Flora S. Perez, and two sisters, Gloria Gutierrez (Fred †) and Bertha Perez.  He is survived by his siblings, Jesus Perez (Nicole †), Martha Cavazos (Freddy †), Dora Eason (Bill †), Daniel Perez (Alma †), and Mary Kolb (Phil), numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur-babies, Scrappy, Curly, and Milo.

Roly was all heart and had a giving soul.  He was a passionate caregiver, having lovingly cared for both of his parents and his older sister, Bertha.  He will be remembered as a friend to all, a loving son, brother, and uncle.  He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have had him in their lives.

Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. (956) 350-8485. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
