With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Lopez Delgado, age 92, who departed from this world on February 5, 2024. David was a man who cherished life, reveled in the company of others, found solace in his faith, and cheered fervently for the Dallas Cowboys. Born on December 28, 1931, he embraced each day with an unwavering enthusiasm that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Throughout his life, David resided in the warm embrace of Los Fresnos and Brownsville, Texas, where he cultivated deep connections within his community. He dedicated many years of service to Marathon LeTourneau Technologies, demonstrating unwavering commitment and integrity in his work. Additionally, David proudly served his country as an Army Private First Class during the Korean War, stationed in Germany, embodying bravery and patriotism.

David’s passions extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He found joy in cheering on the Los Fresnos High School Falcon Football team, engaging in spirited games of bingo, gracefully gliding across the dance floor, and savoring Friday lunches with his beloved group of friends, affectionately known as the ROMEOs.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved children: Yvonne “Bonnie” Delgado, David Lee Delgado (Mitsy), and Pam Delgado, as well as Lucy Pace, the mother of his children. His memory will also be cherished by his adoring grandchildren: Monique Rodriguez, Thomas Rodriguez (Eira), Jenny Delgado, Thomas Delgado (Debbie), David Ivan Delgado, Crystal Trujillo (Carmelo), Joey Cuevas, Joanna Cuevas, and Jarod Rivera, as well as his seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving companion, Leticia Munoz, who brought him comfort and joy.

David is preceded in death by his loving parents, Consuelo Arriaga and Tomas Delgado, and his sisters, Tomasa Delgado Jaramillo and Beatrice Delgado Gonzalez (Baldemar) .

A celebration of David’s life will take place at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78526.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 3:00 p.m. A Chapel Service will follow on Monday, February 12, 2024, with the chapel opening at 9:00 a.m. and the service commencing at 10:00 a.m.

David will be laid to rest with military honors on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas. Thomas Rodriguez, Thomas Gonzalez, David Ivan Delgado, Thomas Lee Delgado, Aaron Arriola, and Juan Jose Sanchez will serve as pallbearers, while Adan Lopez, Joe Ortiz, Ray Ortiz, Felipe Silva, and Chuey Vicinaiz will be honored as honorary pallbearers.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to David’s dedicated medical care team, including Dr. Rafael Lopez, Dr. David Yardley, Dr. Jaime Silva, Margarita Davila, Susana De Los Reyes, and the compassionate staff at Valley Regional Hospital and Brownsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in David’s memory. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever illuminate our hearts with love and cherished memories. David Lopez Delgado will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, forever embraced in the loving arms of God.
