Karina Ivonne Yañez, age 47, passed on November 18, 2023 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Brownsville after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born February 27, 1976 in Brownsville, Texas to Porfirio Yañez (†) and Esther Villafranca Yañez.
She was a 1995 graduate of James Pace High School. Karina worked with children for the majority of her life, managing a daycare at one point. In her last couple years she worked as a receptionist at Rosas Medical Clinic where she was deeply loved by her coworkers and friends.
She is survived by her mother, Esther Villafranca Yañez; three siblings, Hugo (Cindy), Marlet, and Ivan (Adriana); her nieces and nephews, Alejandra, Ethan, Adriana, Kiana, Ivanna, Niraj and Sanjina; her aunts, uncles and her cousins.
Family, friends and everyone who were touched by Karina’s life are welcomed to attend her funeral services. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Christian burial will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
