Angelica Hinojosa Blanco, 86, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and tÃa, passed away at home surrounded by her children in Brownsville, Texas, on August 20, 2023.
Angelica was born Feb. 8, 1937, to Martha Garza and Sotero Hinojosa, in Rancho Santa Margarita, Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. At 27, she married Elias Blanco (RIP), from whom she separated a few years later. They had three children, Martha, Armando, and Hugo, whom she raised in Harlingen and Brownsville. At 52, Angelica retired from a seamstress job, and moved to the Dallas area and helped raise her daughter’s children, Martin, and Jacob. At 71, she moved back to Brownsville.
Angelica was an amazing cook, and enjoyed talking with family and friends, laughing, storytelling, dancing, sewing, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and watching her novelas and videos of babies, nature, and cooking shows. She dearly loved her family and friends and would pray for as many people as she could remember every night.
Angelica is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and many other loved ones. She is survived and greatly missed by her children Martha Blanco Aguirre, Armando Blanco, and Hugo Blanco; daughter-in-law Blanca Blanco; grandchildren Martin and Jacob Aguirre, and Armando, Alex, and Angie Blanco; and great grandchildren Neeley and Blakely Aguirre.
Memorial services will be held from 12:30-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, with a memorial service scheduled at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services conclude at the end of the evening. As there will be no burial at this time, in lieu of flowers, and without obligation, plants may be delivered to the funeral home.
