Teresa S. Hernandez

Teresa S. Hernandez

03/31/1931 – 07/26/2023

Teresa S. Hernandez of Brownsville, Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend entered peacefully into eternal rest on July 26, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born and raised in Brownsville, TX on March 31, 1931 and is proceeded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Jose Hernandez; her parents Bernardo and Maria Sanchez; her sister Irma Zamarripa; and her brother Jose Sanchez.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her children- Noe (Sherry), Orlando, Rene (Lucy), Belinda (Manuel), Yolanda (Alonso), and Leticia; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Teresa had a larger-than-life personality.  She lived life to the fullest and encouraged everyone around her to do the same.  Her animated and spunky spirit was contagious and lifted everyone up. Teresa never forgot a birthday and always gave the most eccentric yet thoughtful gifts.  She never passed on a good practical joke and had a remarkable sense of humor.

Teresa loved people and her community. She worked most of her life in the medical field, which she was very passionate about since it allowed her to interact with patients and provide care to them.  Once retired, Teresa decided that there was still more joy to be spread and became a Walmart door greeter.

Teresa was an avid Catholic member of the Christ the King Church and St. Mary’s.  She and her husband, Joe, were also long-time members of Amigos del Valle where they spent many years dancing, playing bingo, traveling, and were even crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Teresa also participated in the Senior Olympics where she won numerous medals and ribbons.

Teresa made a huge impact on so many people throughout the years with her zest for life and ever-young spirt and she will be missed dearly.
