Alfred Petrarca III 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into
eternal rest on Wednesday July 5, 2023.
Alfred Petrarca III was born to Alfred Petrarca Jr. and Mary Dora King Petrarca of Brownsville,
TX. He enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1964. He served in the army for 10 years rising to
the rank of Staff Sargent. He served in the Vietnam War in Phu-Bai from 1968 to 1969. His awards and
achievements include the Bronze Star, The National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign and Service
Medals, and three Good Conduct Medals.
After his service, Alfred became a police officer for the City of Brownsville in 1976. He faithfully
served his community for 25 years. He rose in rank to Sargent, was a member of the S.W.A.T. team,
head of the armory, and the firearms instructor. In 2009, the police armory was dedicated in his name.
After his retirement, he served as bailiff for the Cameron County Courthouse for 10yrs and was
also a firearms instructor for the TSC Police Academy. He was an avid hunter, gun enthusiast, and
gunsmith. He enjoyed his hunting trips to Beeville, TX with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Petrarca Jr. and Dora King Petrarca.
Left to eternally cherish his memory is his faithful wife Isabel Petrarca and his children: Juliana Parker (Randal), Jennifer Lee Garcia (Richard Lee), and three grandchildren: Ashlyn Reene and Jacob Ryan Parker, and Reid Alfred Garcia. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Ruiz and his brothers Joe, Louis, and Edward Petrarca.
Pallbearers will be Rosendo Garza, Alex Garza, William Wassen, Hector Ramos Jr., Milo Rubio
and Peter Petrarca. Honorary pallbearers are Jesus Rodriguez, Edward Petrarca, Louis Petrarca, Randal S.
Parker, Richard L. Garcia, Reid A. Garcia, and Jacob R. Parker.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made to the Brownsville Police Officers
Association in the name of Everardo Longoria.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 with departure of funeral procession towards the Brownsville Police Department for a final drive by at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Full military honors, BPD honors and committal service will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
