Antonio “Tone” Vela was born in Los Fresnos, TX on June 30, 1951, to Guadalupe Vela and Maria Reyes Duque. He was called upon By Our Savior God to Heaven on June 26th at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Tone was a force of nature, determined to provide for adored family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Juice, Catan, Ne, Bikina, Tiger and his Reyna as he called them and always tried his best to support them.
Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family.
Antonio was also a passionate hog hunter and could often be found running his hounds, herding cattle or working on the ranch when he wasn’t at home.
Anyone who knew Tone knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was preceeded in death by his parents, His Son Hugo Alberto Guillen, and Several Siblings. He was survived by His Loving Wife of 45 years Maria L Rodriguez-Vela, His Daughter Florisa Martinez, Adan Guillen, Alice Hill, Antonio Vela Jr, Hugo Guillen Jr, and Cynthia Madore, as well as Beloved sisters Susie Ortega, Lupita Ramos, Mercy Cortinas, Mary (Aria) Loya, Alice Almaguer, and Josie Castle. The legacy he created will echo in eternity and will Truly Be Missed By All.
Daddy, you are now at peace but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace. We Love You forever
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 1PM to 8PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6PM. Chapel opens at 12PM on Sunday, July 2, 2023 and visitation continues from 12PM to 4PM with a chapel service at 4PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment is to follow at 5PM at Los Soldados Cemetery in Los Fresnos, TX.
The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Sunset Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life on July 1, 2023 – July 2, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home in Brownsville, TX and interment on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 5:00pm at Los Solados Cemetery in Los Fresnos, TX.
