Elia Cantu, 71, of Brownsville, TX, devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into eternal rest, Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her residence in Brownsville surrounded by her loving family. Elia was born in Jaumave, Tamaulipas, Mexico on August 23, 1951.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ruben Cantu; her father Arnulfo Mata; and one brother Jose Ezequiel Mata Mendoza.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving children Noe Rafael, Leonel, Juana Sylvia, and Juana Vanessa; her mother Vicenta Mata; siblings Arnulfo, Alvaro, Eziquio, Graciela, Armando, Javier and Olga; grandchildren George, Sebastian, Rein, Jayda, Sky, Luna, Estrella, Juan Jr., Noe, Rubi, Leo, and Erik; great-grandchildren Rowdy, Arya, Salem, Maddox, Olivia, Alexander, and Alessia.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 2PM to 8PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 12PM to 8PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Chapel opens at 10AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, followed with a Funeral Mass at 2PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
