Gisela A. Lopez, 76, of Brownsville, TX, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. A devoted wife, loving mother, a wonderful grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Gisela was born on September 29, 1946, to Jesus Ruben Alanis and Josefina Ramirez de Alanis. She was born and raised at Rancho “El Gomeño” in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico which provided Mrs. Lopez with a one-of-a-kind and beautiful upbringing. After more than 30 years of service, Gisela decided to retire from the Brownsville Independent School District, where she devotedly worked in the transportation department.

Mrs. Lopez enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing Loteria Mexicana and keeping up with friends and family through Facebook.   She loved caring for her plants and spending time in her patio. Overall, she enjoyed and treasured spending time with family and friends. All who knew her loved her and will miss her dearly. She will be remembered as a kind matriarch who put the welfare of her family above anything else.

Mrs. Lopez was preceded in death by her loving husband, Guadalupe M. Lopez; her parents, Jesus Ruben Alanis and Josefina Ramirez Alanis; and her brother, Higinio Alanis.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jesse A. (Maria) Lopez; George W. (Rosa Virginia) Lopez, and John E. (Karla) Lopez; five grandchildren, Sophia A. Lopez, Daniel A. Lopez, Matthew G. Lopez, Ariana G. Lopez, and John J. Lopez; two sisters, Rosario Garcia and Yolanda Vasquez; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.  Visitation continues on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with a chapel service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with departure of funeral procession at 12:30 p.m. Committal service to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park at 1:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse A. Lopez, George W. Lopez, John E. Lopez, Raul Barreda, Jr., MD, Jose Rodolfo Garcia, Francisco Vasquez, Jr., Mario A. Davila, Jr.; Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew G. Lopez, Daniel A. Lopez and John J. Lopez.
