Jose H. Hernandez

Jose H. Hernandez of Brownsville, TX, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and great-grandfather entered into eternal rest on April 18th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brownsville, TX on March 23rd, 1932.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hipolito and Fortunata Hernandez, brother Cecilio, and sister Maria Magdalena.

Left to cherish his memory is his spouse Teresa Hernandez, children Noe (Sherry Hernandez âœ), Orlando, Rene (Lucy Hernandez), Belinda (Manuel Rocha Jr.), Yolie (Alonso Barrientes Jr.), Letty, brothers Hipolito Jr., Regino, sister Angelita, 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Our dad was a very simple man with good work ethics and responsibility to provide for our family. He was a migrant worker in his younger days. Later, he met our mom and married her in 1954 and were married for 68 years. He worked at Mercy Hospital for many years as a cook and then went on to work at a bus manufacturing plant before he retired. He was a very patient, kind, loving and humble man who always offered his attention to his kids and grandkids. He frequently entertained his grandkids with each of their own special names. He made a special sound effect with his mouth when he shared kisses to the grandkids which sounded something like “boy-yoy-yoingâ€. He also enjoyed his time sipping on an oversized can of beer (which he called a moflé) while watching his favorite Westerns on TV. When he wasn’t watching TV, he worked his brain a little by playing word games, dominoes, or a few magic tricks. Both mom and dad were active members of Christ the King church and St. Mary’s. They both enjoyed participating at the Amigos Del Valle services social facility. Dad was crowned the king of Amigos Del Valle. May his reign as king continue on his next journey.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 5:30pm, and a liturgical service at 6:30pm. Services will conclude at the end of the evening.
